7th Grade Counselor (2017-2018)

Nita Keith, originally from Gadsden, Alabama, is returning for her 17th year as a Professional School Counselor and her 6th year at Bumpus Middle School.  Ms. Keith has done extensive work with elementary, middle, and high school students in school settings, group homes, mental health centers, and psychiatric hospitals in Alabama, Michigan, and California.  She has worked in various school systems in North Alabama including: Piedmont City Schools(Part-time), Anniston City Schools(Full-time), Gadsden City Schools(Full-time; Grant Position), and currently Hoover City Schools. Working in a variety of settings and school systems has helped Ms. Keith develop strong connections with the diverse population of students that attend Bumpus Middle School.


Ms. Keith graduated from Emma Sansom High School(consolidated into what is now Gadsden City High School) and received her B.A. degree in Psychology from The University of Alabama and her M.S. degree in Counselor Education from Jacksonville State University.  Ms. Keith completed her graduate internship at Mountain View Psychiatric Hospital(Gadsden, AL) by working on the Adolescent Boys Unit, Adolescent Girls Unit, Children's Unit and with Summit Academy students.  While attending Alabama, Ms. Keith was a flute player in The University of Alabama Million Dollar Marching Band.  Ms. Keith is a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and loves to talk football.  She is also a political junkie, a Sci-fi fan(Twilight Zone), and she loves to listen to music, read, and travel.  Ms. Keith is  a member of the American Counseling Association, The Alabama School Counselor’s Association, and the Alabama Counseling Association.


Ms.Keith’s top priority are her students! She works with all students in the areas of personal/social development, academics, and career exploration.  This work is done through classroom guidance, small group counseling, and individual counseling.  


Students may come to see Ms. Keith through self-referral, teacher, parent, or administrator referral. For the 2017-2018 school year, Ms. Keith’s office is located in the 1st Floor Office Suite.
